Sylvester Brown
The author, Sylvester Brown, received his B.A. in Education degree from Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University of Texas. His Master of Education degree and Educational Specialist degree were received from Augusta University in Georgia. While working in Richmond County, Sylvester received four separate awards, acclaims as Teacher of the Year, served on several county social organizations, and won the title of State Teacher
of the Year in Social Studies in Georgia.
He has served as president of the Richmond County Retired Educators Association (RCREA), been involved in numerous organizations, plus participated on a variety of committees, and was on various boards dealing with education.
Sylvester has also been involved in many church activities, including being featured as a speaker at a national convention for the Presbyterian Church, in church projects and programs, and on a variety of church committees.
Sylvester has worked as a principal for approximately eighteen-plus years, about two years as an assistant principal, and fifteen years or so as a classroom educator, accumulating around thirty-five years in education before retiring. He has also served in the Army for eight years. During his time of service, Sylvester received the Bronze Star medal for meritorious
service in a military war zone as a chaplain assistant. At the time of this writing, Sylvester has been and is legally blind but considers this to be his blessing in moving forward in his life.
